Chautauqua National Wildlife Refuge

Welcome to Chautauqua National Wildlife Refuge. This is an IMPORTANT BIRD AREA, as the sign boldly pronounces, for migrating birds along the Illinois River Valley.

Great Egret at Banner Marsh.

Great Egret in the dying trees at Chautauqua National Wildlife Refuge, north of Havana, Illinois along the Illinois River. One of my first with the telephoto converter with my Nikon CP995, hand held. You can see a bald eagle nest to the left of the egret.

The first mushrooms I've seen in months. Some sort of agaricus is my best guess. Found on the edge of Banner Marsh in the mud left by the falling water level.
