World Bird Sanctuary

While visiting my brother in West St. Louis County, I had the opportunity to visit the World Bird Sanctuary, 125 Bald Eagle Ridge Road, Valley Park, MO. This is a wonderful place where you can get up close to birds from different parts of the world, including Bald Eagles. According to it's website, "The World Bird Sanctuary is one of North America’s largest facilities for the conservation of birds. WBS is on the leading edge of public awareness regarding the plight of bird species worldwide." It also rehabilitates injured birds at the hospital located at the sanctuary. It was a cloudy morning when I visited the sanctuary, but I was still able to get some nice photographs because of the unique opportunity to get so close to the birds.

Homing Pigeons. Can be released at weddings instead of doves. They return to the center after the big event.

Turkey Buzzard. There were were 15 or 20 wild buzzards sitting on the cage of the captive buzzards. They were pretty impressive as they flapped their wings to fly up to the tree tops when I walked up the path, returning to the nature center.

Burrowing Owl. Isn't he cute peeking out at me? He's probably thinking, "Hey lady, it's going to rain."

Aftrican crow or raven? I think I've seen this one on the BirdPix list. Sure wish I'd taken down the names as I walked through.
